Nine of Coins - Connecting to Impermanence

For my personal card this week for Tarot Tuesdays, I pulled the NINE OF COINS from my Fountain Tarot deck. I have a few other decks which I love, but this is by far and away my favorite. The artwork is incomparable (hand painted!) and the imagery plays well with my intuition. This was my first personal deck and I highly recommend it to anyone just starting out.

Before going too deep into the meaning of the card, I wanted to lay out some basics around how the tarot is structured. There are 78 cards, 12 of which are Major Arcana, and 56 that are Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana are significant/major archetypes along the path of spiritual self-awareness. These should be highly regarded when they show up in a reading. The Minor Arcana are divided into four main suits, which may change name depending on the deck, but the standard for most decks is Coins (Earth), Swords (Air), Wands (Fire) and Cups (Water). These correspond with the astrological signs Coins (Earth) - Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Swords (Air) -Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, Wands (Fire) - Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, and Cups (Water) - Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio. These four suits represent themes in life through connection to the elements and are numbered 1 through 10. Cards 11-14 are the court cards (Page, Knight, Queen and King) and can indicate people in your life. The themes in the Minor Arcana are related more to our day to day experiences.

When thinking about the NINE OF COINS, we now understand that it is a Minor Arcana card, and of the element Earth. As a card representing the physical world, this card is all about individual accomplishment. This card reminds us that life is beautiful and all our hard work has paid off. We have mastered that which we have intended, and it is now time to move to the next stage to reach a deeper state of spiritual awareness.

As is the case anytime I read for myself, this card speaks directly to the moments I experienced today. I had several transcendent moments throughout the day, all of which occurred in nature. I felt overwhelmed by the sight of tulips and blossoms fallen from a tree. I recognized my own impermanence and felt a great appreciation for my presence in this current moment. The last month I have been struggling to let go of someone, or more correctly, the idea of someone, and today I reached a much greater point of acceptance. I felt deeply connected to my purpose, and this card acknowledges that I'm on the right path.
